How to store leftover Turkey Meatloaf?
Leftover turkey meatloaf can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer, depending on how long you plan to keep it. For example, suppose you plan to eat the leftovers within the next 3-4 days. In that case, you can store the leftover meatloaf in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Simply slice the meatloaf into individual servings and place them in the container. Ensure the container is sealed tightly to prevent any air from getting in, which can cause the meat to spoil faster.
Freeze the meatloaf for later!
If you can’t eat the leftover meatloaf within the next few days, you can freeze it for later. To freeze, slice the meatloaf into individual servings for easy meals and wrap each serving tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Then, place the wrapped servings in a freezer-safe container or resealable plastic bag and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.
When ready to eat the leftover meatloaf, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight or reheat it in the microwave or oven. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) before serving.
Variations to add to Turkey Meatloaf
You can make many variations to turkey meatloaf to add different flavors and textures. Here are some ideas to consider:
- Add vegetables: Try adding different types of vegetables, such as shredded zucchini, grated carrot, or even spinach, to the meatloaf mixture. This adds not only flavor but also extra moisture and nutrients.
- Use different spices: Experiment with spices and herbs such as thyme, rosemary, or cumin to add unique flavors to the meatloaf.
- Add cheese: Add grated cheese, such as cheddar or mozzarella, to the meatloaf mixture or sprinkle it on top of it before baking.
- Mix in nuts: Adding chopped nuts such as walnuts, almonds, or pecans can add a crunchy texture to the meatloaf.
- Top with sauce: Instead of BBQ, try topping the meatloaf with a homemade sauce made from tomato paste, vinegar, and brown sugar.
- Swap breadcrumbs: Consider swapping breadcrumbs for rolled oats or cooked quinoa for a gluten-free option.
Adjust the cooking time if you add extra ingredients, or the meatloaf may take longer. Get creative and try different combinations of ingredients until you find your perfect turkey meatloaf recipe!
