Cost: $10

Equipment

  • Pair of Scissors

Materials

  • 1 Glass Jar Mason jars work perfectly!
  • Potpourri (choose your favorite scentor color blend)
  • 1 10-count string lights (LED lights recommended)
  • Doilies
  • Ribbon or twine

Instructions

  • Fill the jar: Add a few lights to the bottom of your jar, then layer in potpourri. Continue alternating between the lights and the potpourri until the jar is almost full, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top. If the layers don't seem quite right or the potpourri and lights are sticking together, gently shake the jar or use a spoon to help distribute the contents more evenly. This can ensure a balanced, attractive look for your potpourri light jar.
  • Add the lid cover: Place a doily over the jar and secure it with a rubber band.
  • Add finishing touches: Wrap ribbon or twine around the top of the jar to hide the rubber band and add a decorative touch. You can add small charms, tags, or mini ornaments with messages to personalize the jar for each recipient. Consider weaving the twine through the doily holes for a more secure and polished look.

Notes

Caution: Do not leave your potpourri light jars unattended or plugged in for long periods.

Safety Tips for Your Potpourri Light Jar

Taking a few extra steps to ensure safety means you can enjoy the cozy glow of your DIY Potpourri Light Jar worry-free. When making or displaying your Potpourri Light Jar, always take a few safety precautions to keep it safe and enjoyable for everyone:
  • Use only cool-touch LED lights. Traditional bulbs can get hot, potentially causing damage or creating a fire hazard.
  • Unplug when not in use. Always turn off or unplug your light jar before leaving the room or going to bed.
  • Avoid overpacking the jar. Leave enough space for airflow around the lights and potpourri.
  • Check cords regularly. Make sure your light string isn’t damaged or frayed before using it inside a jar.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets. The jars contain small parts and should be handled carefully.
  • Place on a flat, heat-safe surface. Ensure your jar sits securely on a stable area away from fabric, curtains, or paper.
