Taco night is a weekly tradition & it is one of our family favorites, especially with my kids! We do our market run & add the necessary ingredients to have tacos for dinner; the taco seasoning packets would be on the list. Although they are so convenient, once I learned to make our own homemade taco seasoning, I was hooked and we will never go back to the taco seasoning packets again, and neither will you once you start making your own taco seasoning!
Ingredients
One tablespoon of each: sea salt, smoked paprika, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder & oregano
1-2 tbsp chili powder
½ tbsp black pepper
Tip: Want to add a bit of kick to your season? Add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes.
Yield: this will make about 1/2 cup of seasoning.
Directions to making Taco Seasoning
Combine all ingredients in a bowl stir until well blended.
What are the best spices to make this seasoning?
It’s best to use fresh spices, because you will find that spices lose their potency over time, particularly ground spices. So be sure to use fresh spices whenever you can.

The seasoning can be stored in a tightly sealed container for up to 6-9 months, and a mason jar is a perfect container for keeping it fresh in a cool, dark place.

It is optional. You can stir the seasoning right in; but, you may find your meat will be a bit dry.
