A few months ago, we acquired a beautiful antique sideboard. I intended to use it to host my TV & Vintage Stereo. However, the cable would have needed to be installed in the intended space. So I had to come up with a plan B for now & which was to use it in another space for the time being.
I called my cable company to get the cable installed, only to find out my cable box was wireless. So all this time, I had a wireless cable box & didn’t know it. Needless to say, I was excited. But, although I enjoyed using this furniture to display houseplants and decor by the window, it wasn’t what I had envisioned. So this past weekend, I decided, It was time for a Living Room Refresh! Now I can move the living space around the way I had envisioned.
My vision for the space!
We have an extensive gallery wall that I wanted the sideboard to be underneath to hold the TV & vintage stereo. So I knew that would be the perfect place! Additionally, the storage space was perfect for storing our CD & record collection.
The living room style I was aiming for was a cozy feel. On the other side of the room, our large couch is against the wall, with the loveseat to the left & the armchair to the right. We will have to get a new couch at some point, but for now, we are working with what we have.
The bookcase had to be moved down a tad to add the floor lamp. But to do that, everything had to come off the shelves. What a nightmare, but the perfect solution is to have more space. Also, In front of the lamp is a massive basket for throw blankets.
Next to the armchair is my beloved Victorian Icebox serves as an end table. Just with these little changes in the small space took all day to do but made a huge impact in the family room. This living room refresh didn’t cost anything to do but our time. It may look like we made major changes to the space, but that’s not the case. Just by moving the furniture in different areas makes the room feel open & inviting.
The blanket chest serves as a unique and stylish coffee table and provides additional storage space for extra blankets, pillows, and other living room essentials. The placement of the chest in the middle of the room creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for gathering with family and friends. In addition, the living room furniture, such as the sofa and armchairs, can be arranged around the chest to create a functional and comfortable seating area. By incorporating multi-functional furniture pieces like the blanket chest, you can make the most of your living space while adding your own personal style to the room.
The room’s focal point is the sideboard with the accent wall of family photos & memorabilia around the TV. This was exactly how I envisioned the space would look when we acquired the sideboard. This little refresh may have taken a long time to get done, but I am so happy with how it came out.
When selecting new decor items
Consider choosing pieces that reflect your personal style, such as colorful throw pillows, unique artwork, or stylish curtains. Another way to update a living room is by rethinking the room’s furniture. One idea is to use a sideboard as a TV stand, giving the room a more contemporary feel while providing additional storage space. Additionally, incorporating vintage elements, such as a stereo placed next to the TV, can add a touch of nostalgia and charm to the living room. Combining these updates gives your living room a new lease on life and makes it a more enjoyable space to spend time in.
