There are some recipes we use all the time & a recipe for homemade banana bread is definitely one of them. We have been making it for years & this banana bread recipe has become a family favorite here in our home & let me tell you that it is so easy to make.

I was given this recipe by a friend many years ago, and I have shared this recipe as well with friends & family over the years. Although I have altered the recipe slightly, it is still one of the best homemade banana bread recipes ever.

Tools needed to make homemade banana bread

  • ​Loaf Pan (if using a cast iron loaf pan, see tips below)
  • Stand mixer or hand-held electric mixer
  • ​​Measuring cup
  • Large bowl
  • ​Mixing Bowl
  • Wire Rack
  • Bread Knife
  • measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 Large Bananas
  • ¾ c sugar
  • ½ c Crisco Vegetable Shortening applesauce can be substituted
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ c milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 c All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 c Nuts optional

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to °350
  2. Mix the dry ingredients,  combine flour, sugar, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl, and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the wet ingredients, Milk, Crisco, eggs, vanilla extract & bananas, and mix well.
  4. Once the wet ingredients are combined, slowly add the flour mixture to the banana mixture a little at a time until well mixed.
  5. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan. 
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes. Poke the center of the loaf with a toothpick, if it comes out clean it is done.
  7. Remove the loaf of banana bread from the pan & cool on a wire rack.
  8. Dust generously with powdered sugar when cool.

  • Preheat to °325. if you are using a cast iron loaf pan
  • Use parchment paper for easy cleanup!
  • If you are using frozen bananas, let them thaw before adding to your ingredients.
  • Substitute Shortening for Applesauce for a healthier version. Be mindful that the banana bread will have a different consistency but it is still very delicious.
  • Add an extra banana for an intensified burst of natural sweetness and a velvety texture that takes this already stellar banana bread to a whole new level of indulgence.

More than likely, you have all the ingredients in your cupboards. I use my kitchen aid mixer, but it’s not necessary. Mixing the ingredients in a bowl by hand or using a hand mixer is fine.

Now, I have tried my hand at mixing everything at once & tried adding an ingredient individually. However, I will say I find that there is no taste difference.  So, you can do whichever you feel is easier for you.
