The Original Yum-Yum dessert

The nostalgia it brings back

Don’t you just love the desserts your grandparents would make? It brings back the nostalgia in me and I remember my Mommom would start baking for the holidays in October & I would watch her mixing up the batter & creating these delicious desserts.  I will tell you, she would spend hours in the kitchen. I would often ask her can I lick the spoon. She would scrape the batter out of the bowl that there would be nothing left to get a taste.

a recipe that came from my southern clan

There is this one particular recipe that my Mommom made & it is one of my all-time favorites and I still make it often as well. It’s called “Yum-Yum”. Strange name for a dessert, I know! My Mommom got this recipe from my Poppops side of the family when they went to visit them down South back in the early ’80s.  They said they had this dessert at a family dinner there & said it was delicious. Our southern family shared the recipe with my grandparents & brought the recipe home to make it.

The Original Yum-Yum dessert

Our family always shared recipes with each other. I remember when I was very young, she made this dessert for the first time. It was called Yum-Yum! This is a no-bake dessert & it has layers of fruit filling, homemade whip cream & crumbled Graham Crackers. It is so heavenly sweet & so yummy. We have tried several fruit fillings, but the Strawberry,  blueberry & cherry are by far the best.

The Original Yum-Yum dessert

Over the last several years, I have seen on the internet the same name “Yum Yum” but the ingredients are a little different.  We love ours so we are skeptical about giving others a try.
