How to organize your medicine cabinet with these few tips and tricks I am sharing, and you will have your medicine cabinet contained quickly in no time!.

Why it is essential to keep your medications organized.

For one thing, when I need to get a pain reliever or cough syrup, the last I don’t want to worry about is having expired medications or not having them at all in the time of need, for this reason, it is essential to stay on top of what you already have or what is about to expire.

How can I organize my medications without a medicine cabinet?

Using bins or a basket is a wonderful alternative. Use space in a linen closet or a cabinet to store it.

What items should be stored in a medicine cabinet?

  • Benzoyl Peroxide
  • First aid kit
  • Sunscreen
  • Medicine
  • Thermometer
  • Rubbing Alcohol

Medicine Cabinet Organization in 5 Easy Steps

  1. Take everything out of the cabinet.
  2. Use an all-purpose spray and wipe down the exterior & interior of your medicine cabinet.
  3. Sort through all the medications
  4. Discard expired medications
  5. Use containers to organize (optional)
  6. Label if necessary if using bins.

Note: Prescription Narcotics should not be stored in a medicine cabinet that anyone could have access to. It is best to keep it in a locked medicine safe.

What are the must-have essentials in your medicine cabinet?

  • Cough Syrup
  • Pain/Fever Relievers
  • Cold Medicines
  • Antihistamines/Allergy
  • Ointments or Salves
  • Antacids

Here are a few tips that will help ensure that your medications are taken timely and safely.

  1. Create a medication list of what you have.
  2. Check labels often for expiration dates.
  3. Use an App to remind you to take your medication.
  4. Make a dosing chart & hang it on the cabinet door.
  5. A pill organizer for medications that are taken daily.

How to dispose of expired medications?

The next time you pick up a prescription, ask your pharmacist for drug disposal pouches, ten your pharmacist will advise you on what the next steps are.

How to prepare prescriptions for disposal:

Any prescribed medications that need to be disposed of should be contained in their original bottle, and remember to remove the label or all personal information to protect your identity and mark it out with a permanent marker of the label that can not easily be removed.

How to prepare over the counter medications for disposal:

This is an easy method for disposing of medications. The first thing to do is to remove them from their original containers and mix them with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds, dirt, or kitty litter then place the mixture in a sealable bag or container to prevent the drug from leaking or breaking out of a garbage bag.
